About Us

The FfE was established to serve as a platform for advocacy and communication among people and institutions concerned with the Ethiopian environment. It was established in June 1997 by a group of people committed to the preservation and betterment of the environment. After working under the umbrella of ENDA-Ethiopia for some years, it got its legal entity in 2003 after legaly registered by Ministry of Justice in January 2003.

The forum is open to anyone involved in environment-related activities in Ethiopia. Adherents come from government departments, university departments, research community, community-based organizations, non-governmental organizations, the media, the donor community, international agencies and the business sector, without distinction of occupation or nationality.

FfE deals with environmental issues with a special focus on six major thematic areas, namely, Forests and Protected Areas ; Fresh water ; Flowers ; [Renewable] Energy, Pollution and Climate Change. The kinds of tools we have been using include, among others, capacity building; lobbying; advocacy; training; network building; communicating information; policy level debates and discussions; public meetings; and incentive schemes .
